Rangers Agree To Terms With Sjostrom

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Fredrik Sjostrom. Sjostrom, 25, appeared in 69 games with the Phoenix Coyotes and Rangers this past season, registering 12 goals and nine assists for 21 points, along with 22 penalty minutes. He established a career-high in goals (12), including his first career hat trick on October 11 at Nashville, and collected a career-high, three assists on December 8 at Los Angeles. He also recorded three multiple-point games and posted a season-high, three game goal streak from December 15 to December 18, tallying four goals over the span. Sjostrom notched two goals in 18 contests with the Rangers, registering his first goal as a Blueshirt on March 2 vs. Philadelphia after making his Rangers? debut on February 28 at Carolina. In addition, Sjostrom skated in 10 post-season games with the Rangers, collecting one assist and two penalty minutes. He registered an assist in his playoff debut on April 9 at New Jersey. The 6-1, 217-pound forward has skated in 279 career NHL contests with the Phoenix Coyotes and Rangers, recording 34 goals and 41 assists for 75 points, along with 134 penalty minutes. In 2006-07, Sjostrom tied for seventh among all NHL forwards in blocked shots (68), and ranked third on the Coyotes in hits (94). He established career-highs in assists (17) and points (23) during the 2005-06 season. As a rookie in 2003-04, Sjostrom ranked second on the Coyotes among first-year players in games played (57), goals (seven), assists (six), points (13), and penalty minutes (22), and led team rookies in shots (73) and game-winning goals (one). He made his NHL debut on November 30, 2003 at Boston, and recorded his first NHL point with a goal on December 12, 2003 vs. Edmonton. The Fargelanda, Sweden native was originally Phoenix?s first round choice, 11th overall, in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. On February 26, he was acquired by the Rangers, along with David LeNeveu, Josh Gratton and a fifth round choice in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, in exchange for Al Montoya and Marcel Hossa.

The Bruins avoided arbitration with Dennis Wideman on Tuesday, agreeing to terms on a four-year, $15.75M deal, according to a report by Rogers Sportsnet. Wideman made $600,000 last season, his first full campaign with the Bruins. He was acquired from the Blues on February 27, 2007 for Brad Boyes.

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Hugh Jessiman. Jessiman, 24, skated in 71 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL) this past season, registering 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points, along with 154 penalty minutes and a plus-10 rating. He established career-highs in goals, assists, points, penalty minutes, and plus/minus rating. Among all Wolf Pack skaters, he ranked third in penalty minutes (154), eighth in points (42), and tied for fifth in goals (18) and eighth in assists (24). He also posted nine multiple-point games, including one three-point effort on March 29 vs. Springfield (one goal and two assists). Jessiman recorded a career-high, six-game scoring streak from March 15 to March 29, collecting nine points (three goals and six assists) over the span. In addition, Jessiman appeared in five playoff games with Hartford, registering one assist and a team-leading, 21 penalty minutes. The 6-6, 230-pounder has skated in 166 career AHL games in three seasons with Hartford, registering 32 goals and 42 assists for 74 points, along with 299 penalty minutes. In 2006-07, Jessiman notched his first career multiple-goal game on March 4 at Hershey (two goals), and recorded a three-game, goal-streak from February 24 to February 28 (three goals). On January 21, 2006, he tallied his first career AHL points with a two-point effort vs. Providence (one goal and one assist). In 14 career AHL playoff games with the Wolf Pack, Jessiman has collected one goal and one assist for two points, along with 30 penalty minutes. Additionally, he has also appeared in 45 career games with the Charlotte Checkers of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), registering 25 goals and 20 assists for 45 points, along with 108 penalty minutes. In college, Jessiman skated in 80 career contests with Dartmouth College of the East College Athletic Conference Hockey League (ECAC), collecting 40 goals and 42 assists for 82 points, along with 137 penalty minutes. In 2002-03, he set the Dartmouth record for freshman scoring with 47 points (23 goals and 24 assists), capturing the ECAC, Ivy League and New England Hockey Writer?s Association Rookie of the Year honors. The New York, New York native was originally selected as the Rangers? first round draft choice, 12th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

New York Rangers' President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Greg Moore. Moore, 24, skated in 72 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL) this past season, registering 26 goals and 40 assists for 66 points, along with 31 penalty minutes and a plus-27 rating. He finished second on the club in goals (26) and points (66), and third in assists (40) and plus/minus rating (plus-27). His 66 points also tied for 18th among all AHL skaters, and his plus-27 rating ranked sixth in the league. The PlanetUSA AHL All-Star posted 17 multiple-point games, including two four-point efforts, and recorded a season-high, seven-game scoring streak from March 19 to March 30 (five goals and seven assists). On December 8 at Worcester, Moore notched his first professional hat trick. In the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs, Moore tied for the team lead in plus-minus rating (plus-three), tied for second in assists (two), and tied for fourth in goals (one) and points (three) while appearing in five games for Hartford. In addition, he appeared in six games with the Rangers this past season, making his NHL debut on November 21 vs. Tampa Bay. The 6-1, 210-pounder has skated in 153 career AHL games in three seasons with Hartford, registering 35 goals and 58 assists for 93 points, along with 74 penalty minutes and a plus-28 rating. In 2006-07, Moore appeared in 79 games in his first full season with the Wolf Pack, finishing sixth among team rookies in assists (17) and points (25). He assisted on the game-winning goal in his professional debut on April 14, 2006, at Providence, and notched his first career goal, a shorthanded game-winner, on April 15, 2006, vs. Bridgeport. In addition, he has appeared in 25 career AHL playoff games, recording three goals and eight assists for 11 points, along with 12 penalty minutes and a plus-three rating. The Lisbon, Maine native was originally selected as Calgary?s fifth round draft choice, 143rd overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. On March 6, 2004, he was acquired by the Rangers, along with Jamie, McClennan and Blair Betts, in exchange for Chris Simon and a seventh round choice in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft (Matt Schneider).

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with free agent defenseman Brian Fahey. Fahey, 27, skated in 76 games with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL) this past season, registering 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points, along with 123 penalty minutes and a plus-13 rating. He ranked third on the team among defensemen in goals (14) and points (37). He also finished third on the club with 123 penalty minutes and seventh with a plus-13 rating. In addition, Fahey notched two goals and eight assists for 10 points, along with 24 penalty minutes in 24 post-season contests to help the Wolves capture the 2008 Calder Cup championship. He tied for second on the team in assists by a defenseman (eight), and finished fourth on the club in goals by a defensemen (two) during the playoffs. The 6-1, 215-pounder has skated in 249 career AHL games with the Worcester IceCats, Hershey Bears, Iowa Stars, and Chicago Wolves, recording 31 goals and 57 assists for 88 points, along with 298 penalty minutes. In 2006-07, Fahey finished third among Wolves defensemen with a plus-17 rating. He was awarded the 2007 Tim Breslin Unsung Hero Award, given annually to the Wolves player who best typifies the on-ice spirit and team-first attitude of Tim Breslin. In addition, Fahey has appeared in 46 career AHL post-season contests with Iowa and Chicago, collecting five goals and 11 assists for 16 points, along with 52 penalty minutes. The Glenview, Illinois native was originally Colorado?s fourth round selection, 119th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Fritsche, 23, appeared in 69 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this past season, registering 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points, along with 22 penalty minutes. He ranked fifth on the club in goals (10), and tied for eighth on the team in points (22) and 10th in assists (12). He established a career-high with 109 shots and tied his personal best with four game-winning goals, which ranked second on the team. Fritsche posted three multiple-point efforts this season. The 6-1, 206-pounder has appeared in 206 career regular season contests with Columbus, recording 29 goals and 34 assists for 63 points, along with 91 penalty minutes. He established career-highs in goals (12), assists (15), points (27), plus/minus rating (plus-three), penalty minutes (35), and power play goals (five) during the 2006-07 season. He registered his first career multiple-goal game on October 5, 2005 at Washington (two goals), becoming the first player in Columbus franchise history to record a multiple-goal game on Opening Night. The Parma, Ohio native was originally Columbus? second round choice, 46th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. On July 2, 2008, he was acquired with Nikolai Zherdev from Columbus in exchange for Fedor Tyutin and Christian Backman.
